Recovering
Plastics from durable goods: By Al Maten MBA Polymers carries out research for the American Plastics Council, the Poly Urethane Recycle & Recovery Council, plastics companies, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and local, state and federal agencies. According to Mike Biddle, MBA Polymers' president, the facility has a separate laboratory for developing and demonstrating state-of-the-art identification. It currently has several pieces of equipment that can identify plastics in five seconds or less and is working with the manufactures as part of an APC project to further develop these instruments. It also has laboratories with plastics analysis and testing equipment to evaluate recycled plastics produced by its process and others. MBA Polymers plans to commercialize its processing technology over the next several years. Information technology equipment manufacturers (as well as other OEMs, such as automotive manufacturers) use the facility to explore both how to recycle existing products and how to design future products so they might be recycled more easily.
